WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?

The bacterium Clostridium botulinum produces a purified toxin known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, and this is the very toxin used and trademarked by BOTOX® Cosmetic. The toxin works by blocking muscles from responding to nerve impulses, and in large quantities, this can cause Botulism, a kind of paralysis. However, because only small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are directly injected into a particular muscle, paralysis only occurs on that specific area. This effectively stops the problems caused by the muscle, such as frown lines and twitch spasms.

WHERE IS THE BOTOX® COSMETIC INJECTED?

When you frown on purpose, you will be able to feel the muscles below the inside of your eyebrows thickening. The frown line that appears as a result of this action is made manifest by the corrugator muscle. In order to prevent your eyebrows from drawing close together when you frown, Dr. Rapaport specifically targets and injects the corrugator muscle directly with BOTOX® Cosmetic. HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The actual process of a BOTOX treatment as administered by Dr. Rapaport only takes a few minutes. Results from the BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment can then be observed between three and ten days. Within three to five months, muscle action will gradually return as the BOTOX® Cosmetic effect slowly fades. To maintain the desired result and to prevent the frown lines from reappearing, a repeat treatment is advised.
