IS THE LASER TATTOO REMOVAL IN NEW JERSEY PROCESS PAINFUL?

The laser emits light in very short flashes of light called pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band or specks of hot bacon grease on the skin.

HOW MANY TREATMENT SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE TO REMOVE THE TATTOO IN NJ?

On the average, professional tattoos require at least 6 -10 treatments, while amateur tattoos require 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately on 6 – 8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin.

DO ALL COLORS OF INK DISAPPEAR EQUALLY AS WELL?

No dark (blue/black) inks and red inks fade the best. Oranges and purples usually respond well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, although additional treatments can produce significant fading.

WILL THE TATTOO COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR?

Dr. Rapaport who offers tattoo removal in NJ feels that greater than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is very important to know that over 100 tattoo inks are in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Not knowing which tattoo ink, how deep or how much was used, makes it impossible for the physician to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo

WHAT TYPE OF POST TREATMENT CARE IS NECESSARY?

Usually there will be pinpoint bleeding associated with the treatment. An antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied to the area. The treated area should be kept clean with continued application of any ointment given to you by Dr. Rapaport. A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated area should not be scrubbed.

WHAT ARE BROWN SPOTS OR PIGMENTED LESIONS?

The color of our skin is caused by melanin. The amount of melanin that we each have varies, based on how light or dark our complexions are. When melanin is unusually concentrated in a specific area of the skin, pigmented lesions that are dark in color, commonly known as brown spots, occur. There are various factors that cause these high concentrations of melanin. While some are already present at birth, most are results of overexposure to the sun or with age.

CAN THESE BE REMOVED WITHOUT SURGERY?

Absolutely. Using modern laser technology, lightening or even successfully removing pigmented lesions can be done. Using the energy of light, a laser is able to remove these pigmented lesions. Abnormal melanin concentrations require the appropriate wavelength of light for optimum absorption, and this is exactly what the Medlite provides. For maximum melanin destruction, short, high-intensity pulses are delivered by the laser. To provide maximum removal of abnormal melanin with as little damage to the normal skin as possible, this combination of rapidly pulsed light and wavelength is specifically effective. WHY DOESN’T THE LASER REMOVE MY NORMAL SKIN PIGMENTATION IN THE PROCESS?

Dark deposits of melanin are selectively targeted by certain properties of laser light. Some whitening could occur when treatment is continued after the abnormal amount of melanin has been removed. However, the melanin returns to its natural state after a period of time, thanks to the natural regenerative system of our body.

IS THE PROCESS PAINFUL?

Light is emitted in pulses, or in short flashes, by the Q-switched Yag laser. This powerful light pulse produces energy that is very similar in sensation to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. It will feel like you have a minor sunburn after the treatment. All discomfort typically disappears within a day or two. However, it’ll take another two to four weeks before the redness disappears. The skin returns to its natural texture and coloring when the redness disappears.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED TO REMOVE PIGMENTED LESIONS?

It only takes one treatment to remove a minimum of 80% of all common pigmented lesions. In order to avoid discomfort, Dr. Rapaport may recommend pigment treatment in NJ in several stages, if it’s a large lesion.
